Of all the places in your home to put a desk, you might not think about tucking it near the doorway. But after glancing at this image we found on Flickr, we might be switching over to using our workspace as a personal welcome mat.

In a space where a pessimist might say a desk would never fit—it's practically the foyer!—this long, narrow double-desk makes itself useful in multiple ways.

First it serves a function as a sleek and (super, incredibly) minimal workspace for a laptop user. But it's also the perfect landing strip. Plenty of desk space leaves you room to drop mail and keys.

Plus, a hybrid landing strip/desk offers you a wired up stop on your way in or out the door. It's exactly where you'd want your connection to the outside world to live. A quick glance at the screen can give you weather and traffic information.
