Buying a few extra serving platters to entertain holiday guests? Don't let them collect dust all year. Turn a melamine tray into a slim-silhouette venting laptop stand.

With just a "winged" melamine tray and some jigsaw-cut sticks of hard wood, Instructables user laxap made a vented laptop tray that also allows for a little extra shelf for an external hard drive or other peripheral.

A tray like this is especially useful in the winter months, when most of us laptop users like to go from desk to couch and rest our machines on fan-suffocating blankets.
