We all need a place to sit down and do a little desk work now and then, even in small homes. This little home office is full of good ideas for those of us who are pressed for space:
First, this office is located in a hallway. We can't count how many poorly-laid-out apartments we've seen that have too much hallway and too few rooms. But turn those lemons into lemonade by using the hall for more than getting from point A to B!
Secondly, we love this wall-mount desk. It takes up very little visual space and would be a breeze to clean around since it has no legs. Bonus is the shape, which is slightly tapered on its outer edge to make it less of a bump hazard in a high-circulation area.
Lastly, those storage crates turned on their sides make awesome shelving. Different sizes are used, which looks really cool and serves a function: small things on small shelves and larger things on larger shelves.
What else can you spy here that's a great idea for the small home office?

Great use of space!!
small chair.
small lamp; positioning desk by window and skylight for more light.
use of window well for storing books, etc.
using a box within a crate to hold and hide smaller items or confidential papers.
use of color - first, using a lighter color on the walls (to match nearby spaces; duh) and painting crates the same color as the wall, having a light-colored wastebasket. makes those items seem to recede.
cute space. i love the crate idea. might have to try that myself. and having a smaller office would hopefully encourage organization. :)
I love the use of the boxes as both wall art and storage--it keeps everything very organized. The sconces are beautiful too!

I have a bunch of scavenged old drawers that would work great like this! I put my iPod player in one, and it really improves the sound....
Pared down and sparse, that's what creates a creative work space for me. White and well lit is a great motivator to getting something accomplished at the desk. Nicely done and inspiring!
To me, the fact that the flooring is so different makes a definite psychological impact - like, you step over that line and now you're IN the office, where work gets done.
My neighbor put used drawers in a rental's living room and they looked fantastic. Unfortunately the first renter took them down. But she (renter) did a lot of other unartistic things too.
Love this idea! Such a great use of space.
This is a perfect uses of space in the corridor. Great to way to create a small office in a space that would probably go unused.
