This off-grid shipping container house in Nederland, Colorado, is a perfect example of a modern structure that looks right at home in a rustic setting. Built by architecture firm Studio: HT, the home is made with two shipping containers straddling a taller common area.
The container "wings" house the bedrooms, bathroom, and office, while the common area houses the kitchen, living room, and loft. The loft deck allows for an open-air snooze surrounded by nature as a bed can easily roll between the interior and exterior areas.
Green features incorporated into the house include solar orientation, solar photovoltaics, passive cooling, pellet stove heating, and a green roof — but the best feature of all? Those expansive mountain views from the roll-up door in the living room!

My first thought when seeing this was, "Now where in Boulder County is this?" LOL! It's very cool. I'd love to see it up close, or better yet, go inside.
Ah, more shipping container homes. I bet it cost as much or more to construct this home than building it without a shipping container. I think melting down the container so that the metal can be recycled is probably more green than spending fuel to cart it out in the middle of nowhere and then use a crane to put it in place. Nice house though.
I love seeing experimentation in housing. I'm feeling as if much of the old housing stock just isn't working well for evolving styles of living, and it's high time for new materials, new designs, new configurations to develop and then become more available to the rest of us.
Would love to see a full house tour of this!
Oh, I should have Googled it first! Here's a link with a closer look: http://www.archdaily.com/222361/shipping-container-house-studio-ht/
I could definitely live like this. Just spend a little bit more to make it zombie proof and I'm there!
@BEN44 - totally agree and I live in the suburbs! I love seeing homes like this
how much?
Most of the houses in Ned need parts brought in. I have heard family tales of A frames not fitting through the tunnel on 119 and having to be taken off trucks, walked through the tunnel and put back on the truck.
That said, this post gives me hope that my cob plans will fly.
