With the start of the Olympics, the spotlight is on host city London. A modern city steeped in history, London is rich in iconic landmarks and symbols: black cabs, double decker buses, red phone booths, Big Ben, Tower Bridge and, of course, the Queen herself. And let's not forget the most recognizable symbol of the United Kingdom: the Union Jack. I thought it would be fun to look at some children's rooms that incorporate 'Cool Brittania' in both big and small ways.
What I particularly love about these touches of England in kids rooms is that depending on how they're used they can read as classic or quirky. Parents who wanted to go less formal and masculine, switched up the colors for something softer.
Whether you're an Anglophile looking to make a small nod to a country you're affectionate for or you want to do the full monty with Brit-inspired decor - I think it will look aces.

The telephone red door is superb! I also love the Union Jackson headboard. Great idea to find kid's rooms with English decor since we are thinking of London during the Olympics.
Being from the UK I wanted to bring a little touch of this into my sons room. I bought a large tapestry of the Union Jack and made it into four window panels. So when closed it makes the flag around his room, when open it just adds pops of colour to his space. I am trying to work up some ideas for my daughters (born any moment now) room now with the same UK whimsy.
Paint that phone box blue and your kid will have a TARDIS in their room!!
LOVE!
Just to be terribly British for a moment, the flag is called the Union FLAG. It is only called the Union Jack when it's flying aboard a ship.
Sorry to interrupt ... :)
Amaranta, I'm British and grew up there and we all called it the Union Jack. It is commonly known as that there and not just when it's flying on a ship. But it did make me think so I googled it and came to the same conclusion.
AT - thanks for featuring my boys' bedroom, room 3. And K.Ferg, love the suggestion about the tardis. I may just have to replace the phone box decal that I have on the closet door with a hand painted police box.
I'm British too, and yes, the flag is comonly referred to as the Union Jack there, even though it's technically wrong...
On another note, it's Britania, not Brittania
oops - Britannia! How embarassing :o/
Good to see so many British people here!
I'm seriously envious of some of these kids rooms. :-)
I'm sorry to intervene but that red telephone box could so easily as previously mentioned become a tardis. I must speak out.
Stop appropriating the most superficial aspects of my culture and embrace it more meaningfully with a box set of Doctor Who, and something unrecognisable in a pie.
Haha @ILOVE SUSHI! I'm still trying to figure out " I think it will look aces."
Never mind British, how about English? St. George's cross, Doctor Who, Vicki Pollard and proper English curry...
Thank you for featuring the London-themed room which includes my London Bus print (image number 10).
