I picked up this Isaac Mizrahi for Target vanity stool on sale years ago and always loved the gold tassel legs, a tongue-in-cheek reference to ornate mid-century designs when paired with a modern fabric. But, the fabric — while cute — was never really my style and lacking a vanity to sit at, it has really served no purpose aside from hanging out forlornly at the side of my bedroom. So when I needed a beside table for our guest room I decided that the little stool's day had finally come.

The guest room has a slightly nautical theme so I thought the tassels would be perfect and the stenciled letters and numbers — which represent our initials and birthdays — are a nod to shipping containers. The contrast between the cheap, unpainted pulpboard, industrial stencils and gilded legs totally works for my aesthetic and the stool gets a happy new life.
