The founder of Dwell, Lara Hedberg Deam, is putting together a series of four color palettes that will be rolled out over the course of the year. We blogged the first one, a classic red/grey combo and now, we take a look at the second one, just released:
A dark brown is used as an anchor and the three complimentary colors that have varied undertones, so while neutral, it remains interesting visually. Either all used in one room or spread throughout a home, Deam explains that this palette (based on Ralph Lauren Paint) should be easy to implement in most spaces, from more traditional homes to modern, architectural spaces.
She choose Stable Brown as the very dark, very powerful anchor color, then added the counterpoint of three grays: warm Donnybrook, blue-ish Cymbric Silver and lavender Countess.
It is a palette that is all about combining subtle colors elegantly in a way that is quiet but not expected.

My first thought was that the colors in the photo do not flatter Ms. Deam at all!
Big yawn.
I love this a LOT better than the last one... this could be amazing...so soothing and elegant or sophisticated...
Boring. snooze. meh.
Where has Ms. Deam received such training?
Apart from the fact that these colours are hideous, can we move away from the fallacy that any colours are 'neutral'? And what's up with having someone else decide for us what is hot and what's not? Surely those are things that we can explore on our own?
I don't think these colors are that bad. I am curious as to why such a big difference in reaction as compare to her last recommendations. How do all of you who don't like this set feel about her last recommendation?
I like this MUCH more than the first. These colors feel like Miranda Hobbes to me. Classic and timeless.
hmmm. my living room is red/grey and my bedroom is mostly these shades. guess i'm ahead of the (dwell) times...
