We love to organize children's books using front-facing shelves. It makes for easy recognition for kids, plus the book covers become a design element themselves. But there is one drawback to this method.
Unless you have miles of wall space, it's pretty much impossible to store every book in your child's library front-facing. Then we stumbled upon this super easy solution that allows you to organize books front-facing - only in rows. Recreate a similar table by using an old drawer and adding legs. Flipping through books at bedtime will remind you of the olden days when you shopped for CDs in music stores. If you're interested, check out the rest of this modern nursery at Dejligheder.

Nomade Express Slee...
I want to make one of these for storing vinyl records now.
Oooohh. That's a good idea, PULLO!
reminds me of the library!
great idea! i was also thinking that you can also use a cube shelf, turned on its side - this would keep the books organized into neat rows!
Whats the patchwork thing hanging above it on the eall? It looks so fun and colorful.
Instead of buying rain gutters at the home improvement store, you can turn to the planter boxes instead!
This would look gorgeous made out of an old suitcase on legs and would have the added benifit of being easy to close over for an extra surface if need be.
the cube facing upwards is how all libraries here in australia store childrens books. This is a cuter concept. I love it.
@This Girl: I'm from Australia too and I have such fond memories of cubes full of books at the local library when I was a child. The smell too!
We already have a drawer that we scavenged from an old dresser for this purpose, but I never though of putting legs on it. Now I'll have to go looking for some legs. Any suggestions?
What a cute idea.
both mod and traditional legs are for sale at your bigbox store near the lumber section.
This is a great idea. My toddler gravitates toward books that we face out against the wall next to the rocking chair. You could also use an inexpensive basket and rotate the books if space is an issue.
As a teacher, I've used rain gutters under my white board to display books. You'd need a lot of wall space in a child's room though.
