There's something just plain wrong about buying a bin for recycling that's not made out of recycled material. Isn't there?
Don't get us wrong -- we're totally guilty. Our recycle bin is a white plastic trash can from Target. Wouldn't it have been smarter (and made more sense) if we'd bought something that was recycled in the first place?
This Sustainable Trash Can from Eco by Design ($34) is made from 99% reclaimed automobile tires and recycled plastic trim.
Now, the real question is: Does it smell like tires? If it does ... no thank you. If it doesn't ... well, it would make a pretty good looking recycling (or trash) receptacle.

What you're saying is that you would get rid of your target trash barrel in favor of a recycled one? Isn't that kind of wasteful?
The flip-up lid on my old garbage can broke so I bought a new one. I threw away the broken lid and taped some green recycling symbols (thank-you google images) to the sides. Now it takes no more bother to recycle something than to throw it away. Of course, my city makes it easy by accepting commingled recyclables curbside.
