It's no secret that Texas has a big personality and a great deal of variety. From the west to the east, you'll find mountains to beaches with hills and plains between, but there is nothing plain about these two Texas retro motels.
We're crazy about the simple, rustic charm of Stone Village and the gorgeous view of Sleeping Lion Mountain. The cool, clear night skies and big, bright stars are worth the trip out to Fort Davis, although there is plenty more to see in this rugged, historic town. But if desert star gazing and Indian lore are not your thing, you can drive about 600 miles south-east to the coast.Mustang Island and you'll be in Port Aransas, or "Port A" as locals say. You won't find many luxury hotels here and everything tends to be a little salted and sanded. What's great about Port A is that there is no pretension at all and just about anything goes. No shoes, no shirt, no problem! So the Laughing Horse Lodge fits right in, with it's complete lack of tact.
The Lodge is a colorful collection of beach cottages just two blocks from the shore and a quick stroll into town. Built in the 40's and 50's, the cottages are available in various sizes and colors (!) with kitchenettes, porches, and BBQ pits. The lodge strives to be a combo of "funky chic and cowboy camp" while maintaining a comforting and welcoming environment for creative folks (and their pets).
