Nicknames: Rembot (2.5) & Baby Shark (15 months)
Location: New Haven County, CT
Division: Shared Room
Room Size: 98 square feet
Tip for Living Small with Kids: We keep their toys pared down to some fun, open-ended toys that encourage creativity and pretend play. When it comes to the gift-giving season, we (politely) tell anyone who asks that we love 'consumable' gifts for the girls. Tickets to Sesame Street Live, passes to a children's museum, or a trip to a park are all great gifts that make memories without taking up space.
Biggest Design Challenge in this Room: This room functions as their bedroom and playroom. The biggest design challenge was fitting the girls' cribs, toys, and clothes in one tiny space. Every space was utilized - puzzles under the crib, 'quiet time' toys in the lunchboxes on the shelf. In the closet, we dropped the hanging rod and installed shelves. Al of their clothes fit in little bins on the shelves, and dresses and sweaters hang from the rod.
Favorite Thing About This Room: The fabric pennant! It was a labor of love. I picked out fabrics I really liked, and used the pennant as the inspiration for the rest of the room.
Thanks for your entry Roo and good luck!

cute room!
I LOVE this room! It's a great use of color and space! I really like the penant...I might be looking into that one myself!
so cute!
Lovely! I love the fabric you chose and the colors in this space.
Love the oversized letters! May I ask where you found them?
Hi Johanna! I bought the paper mache letters at Jo-Ann Fabrics, and painted them the same blue as the closet (not shown). :)
I love it! Great use of a small space and it's a great blend between grown up design with kid friendly elements. (i.e. it's really cute without making me want to poke my eyes out)
Thanks! I go to Jo-Ann's all the time. I will look for them!
I love the shelving unit! Where can I get one?? Great room!!
Hi, pandamonkey! Both are from IKEA, although I've seen comparable ones of the white unit at Lowe's, Pottery Barn kids, etc. :) And thank you!
I really like the cribs - where did you get them? Great room, by the way, I absolutely love red and light blue together.
Hi, Studio Andy! Thanks! I wanted a room that didn't look like Pepto Bismol exploded in it. :) The cribs are from IKEA, the Leksvik line, I believe!
Very nice space! I bet your kids adore it. You can never go wrong with an Expedit for storage in a kid's room!
It's so sweet!
amazing colour choice!
This room is fantastic! Nice work. I recently bought the same shelf unit at Ikea and am looking for baskets. Do you remember where you got yours?
Hi sarahhauge, thank you! The baskets are the strapping cubes from the Land of Nod. I know if you search 'expedit' on ohdeedoh, there's an article on ten baskets for your Expedit (name of the shelving unit). :)
This room is outstanding and a nice display of how you can give your kids everything they need without spoiling them.
EXCELLLENT!!!!
this is almost exactly what I had in mind for my kid's room. I love it so much! I love the large letters and the colors and everything!!
Really cute. Quick question- how did you attach the wall letters? I have the same ones and have avoided hanging them above the crib because I was uncertain of an option that would keep them up securely. Thanks!
Hi Amylinn, it was pretty easy to attach the letter because they're so lightweight. The letters are resting on nails, and I used pretty strong sticky tac to secure them to the walls as an extra measure. The walls will probably sustain a little damage when I remove it, but nothing a little paint won't fix! :)
The joys of a shared computer. :) Sorry, I commented under my mom's name. But yes...!
Nails & sticky tac or nails & velcro, and you will be smooth sailing!
Love the room and the super cute babes in sundresses too!
Finally a room for two toddlers! great job!
Love the colors!
Hi again - what are the paint colors you used on the walls, the big letters, and the red table? You've inspired me to make over my daughter's room. Thanks!
Hi, kfritz.. I'll check and get back to you! :)
So the blue on the letters (I repeat it on the closet door and on a dollhouse, both not shown) is by Olympic and it's called Flemish Sky. I don't have the other paint colors, but I went with as neutral as possible, because sometimes I'm fickle and like to change it up. This way if I want to change it (which I hope I won't be until the girls are older), I don't have to repaint. :) Hope this helps!
thanks so much!
The room is cute and functional. I also kinda like the names of the girls, and the outfits they're both wearing!
Thanks! They're 'real' nicknames, and the dresses were made by a friend. :)
Love it, Roo! Congrats! :)
Beautiful! You deserve extra points for fitting all their stuff in one room.
Nice work! Love the color scheme!
What a cute and fun room for your little ladies!
