The television-in-the-bedroom debate continues, both on Apartment Therapy and in my own mind, but when I saw this flatscreen television mounted on a monumental easel I just thought, "Oooh...."
The starkly, cleanly beautiful Manhattan home of Adam Gordon and Kristina O'Neal was featured in February's World of Interiors, and honestly, I want to live there.
Floor to ceiling windows! Floorboards from a gin factory! A perfect bathtub IN the bedroom! And of course, also in the bedroom, a grand television that has been transformed from everyday electronic device into something timeless and industrial. The juxtaposition of sturdy, serious wood and high-tech flatscreen reminds me of the series Firefly. (Oh my gosh, can you imagine watching Firefly in that bedroom, in that tub? That's the dream.) I especially appreciate that the easel is on wheels, allowing you to reposition the television, or stow it away in a closet when not in use. That prevents the television from being a constant presence, and makes watching a show or a movie more of a choice, a special event. The tub helps, too...

Nomade Express Slee...
Ohmygosh. I love this! I wish I'd seen this before- this would have looked so cool in my livingroom, and not cost me a whole lot more than mouting the tv properly on the wall did. I imagine the cords could make things a little tricky, but this is a great look! I love it! (and yeah, not a bad spot to watch some space cowboys ;) )
No. Just no. Here's why: the cords and cables.
O foresee an accident with that exposed light bulb.
Overall, interesting concept, but I think better suited to a loft of more industrial-looking space.
oops -- meant "I foresee..."
"Oh my gosh, can you imagine watching Firefly in that bedroom, in that tub? That's the dream."
Wow. That *is* the dream...
I love it in this bedroom... but in mine, cords and cables would be a problem...
I would mount a piece of wood on the lower half to act as a screen for the cables. Then you could coil them up and tuck them behind the "wooden screen" when the TV is not in use, provided that it doesn't sit at the corner of the bed all the time.
Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!! Bravo!!!!
that is certainly creative! but reminds me of the TV set-ups in hospitals... if it was completely stationary i'd like it better. to me, "TV on casters" says - i can't get out of bed.
oh i hate it! not only does it seem like it would injure someone or thing, televisions do not belong in the bedroom....or anywhere in my house
If Vicente Wolf didn't design this apartment, then I think this is a crib from him. I recall seeing photographs of his own apartment where he used this solution in his living room or family room...he painted the easel matte black, which looked way cool and disguised the cords better, at least I don't recall seeing any. It sat at an angle in the corner of the room, and looked really elegant.
Genius.
Those nice big wood easels are REALLY expensive.
It is not unlike the one being sold at Restoration Hardware.

Wow, I would not want that anywhere near my house. Want a flat screen tv in your bedroom without a giant easel? Why not just buy a tv lift cabinet and hide it away when you dont want it out? i bought mine from www.theaterlift.com
An easel might work in the LR but this just seems in the way. I would no doubt trip or bang my knee in the middle of the night or early morning en route to coffee. Besides, even if you're cool with a tv in the bedroom, I don't think anyone wants it as the focal point.
It looks like it's supposed to roll around so maybe you could move it out of the way but maneuverability looks limited based on the cables going under the bed.
I like the rest of the apartment, though!
So here would be my solution. A small htpc mounted to easel and cut the cable cord all together. Stream everything from the media server that sits hidden away. One cord from the small htpc to the tv and one cord for power. You could also mount a sound bar under the TV so it doesn't sound like crap.
I like the idea of wheeling that tv around. wanna sit on the patio and watch a game? roll the tv outside. Wanna watch a movie in the pool? Roll it outside. Wanna watch a tv show in the bat tub? Roll it to the bathroom. Wanna have to Basketball games on at the same time? Roll it next to the living room tv.
I like options.
the apt just sold for $13.5M

fantastic! thats why A.T. is the best source for lovely ideas+solutions around the house! thank u A.T.!
That easel is beautiful, but I don't like how it looks with a TV on it. Also, I wouldn't want a television in the bedroom. From my experience, it's a romance killer.
I love this. Restoration Hardware has one and I've had my eye on it for some time now!
A bedroom TV is a sleep killer, too.
Dunno about having a TV in the bedroom, but putting it on an easel is a killer repurposing idea.
For a Living Room? Sure, why not?
For a Bedroom? Heck No.
Great idea.. but not very sure abt this in the bedroom. Very imposing structure!!
Maybe against the wall and the cords hidden, but not where it's pictured.
We would NEVER have a TV in the bedroom but here is the one on an easel in our living room (that I've posted here 3 years ago).
We just moved & it looks even better in the new place. Love it!

Not a fan of tv in the bedroom, although it IS a nice easel, that I'd love to have. . .
this is the best idea ever! I was thinking about it before but for my living room. Unfortunately the idea has died with my over-active bulldog arrival. It wouldn't be safe.
Until recently I had my TV and speakers on a wheeled shelf. It was wonderful because we could store it out of the way, wheel it in front of the couch, or take it into the bedroom for sick days/ lazy weekend evenings. Cords weren't a problem, because we had everything plugged into a power strip so that there was just one cord to reattach. I'd still have it, but the shelf was hideous. This is a much more elegant solution!
being so close to the bed like that it looks like an x-ray machine or some type of hospital equipment. I'd like it better in a corner.
First, the easel part isn't that expensive. Second, the whole point of having it mounted that way is an artistic statement, as well as a practical one.
It can be moved. If the designer wanted it hung or in "the corner", then there it would be, uninspired and hackneyed in all its technical glory.
As an artist, this is art, and you do have control over the remote after all.
dmanciniaz- Excellent plan. I love the idea of having TV & movies wherever I want them- in the kitchen while making a thousand raviolis!
franzmendoza- Man, I wish I would have known! I just needed to save up $13.499million more...
