Lately we've been seeing lots of unexpected lighting choices in the bedroom — and we've found that ditching the standard ceiling fan/light combo or boring flush mount fixture can work miracles with the overall feel of your space. Chandeliers aren't always budget-friendly; however, we've rounded up five inspirational spaces, five moderately-priced selections, and five DIY options.
1. Sparkling crystalline lights crown this luxurious bedroom and complement the indulgent bed dressings.
2. A twiggy chandelier injects an earthy point of interest into a neutral palette.
3. Dark, neutral beads bring a playful sophistication to an industrial bedroom.
4. This seashell chandelier adds a little formal charm to a beachy room.
5. Hanging blue glass adds interest to an already interesting space; the solid chandelier grounds the room.
6. This star chandelier will add a fanciful note to your bedroom; from Layla Grace, $196.
7. Get the industrial look with this loft chandelier, from ZGallerie, $299.
8. Go bold with this red beauty from the Home Depot, $149.
9. Snag this purple beaded chandelier at Urban Outfitters for only $59!
10. This mini-chandelier from Lighting Direct has enough power to light an 8'x6' room and packs a seriously fancy punch, $298.
11. Kara Paslay shows you how to make this mason jar chandelier, with a full tutorial that includes lots of step-by-step pictures.
12. An extension cord + chains + a couple wreath frames + some christmas lights = a pretty, ethereal chandelier, from Grosgrain.
13. Brooke from B.E. Interiors makes her own rustic twig chandelier by adding twigs to her existing fixture.
14. The ubiquitous capiz chandelier is beautiful, light, and simple — and $9 — when you follow Freshly Picked's gorgeously detailed tutorial.
15. Jenny Komenda dismantled an Ikea Maskros chandelier to make her very own sputnik chandelier — and she did it all in one night!

Nomade Express Slee...
I think my only problem with a lot of chandeliers is that the light output just isn't that much, or enough for a room. I would love the star chandelier for my dining room but the maximum wattage is 60. I don't want to have to turn on several lamps just to have dinner and see the person across from me.
I like the way they look, but living in California, I can't imagine having anything with swinging, glass or metal detachable parts over my head in the middle of the night.
I just installed a chandelier in my bedroom and I love it! Pi mentioned the relative lack of light output but I think for the bedroom it's alright. Previously used a halogen floor lamp and that sucker lit up my bedroom like a movie studio! Too bright, no thank you. With a sparkly crystal chandelier I get elegance, touch of femininity, and beautiful just-right lighting even though my bedroom doesn't get any direct sunlight.
Lovely, but I don't think I could ever sleep for more than a night or two during humid Louisiana summers without an overhead fan. I've made mine a little better by replacing the traditional glass globe with a lampshade.
We have a Moravian Star in our entry hall, but over the bed, I think something that angular and pointy would keep me awake. Even though the first one probably weighs more and would probably cause more damage if it fell, it seems "softer" and doesn't bother me for a bedroom as much.
But I have a ceiling fan and much prefer the physical and psychological comfort of the breeze and white noise to having something prettier there... I have sufficient "glamour" in my bedding and crystal table lamps.
I love the look of chandeliers but yeah, in Texas, a ceiling fan is a must.
I have been doing tons of research about making my own mason jar chandelier, rather mason jar swag light (renter) and it concluded with, its a bad idea. It would not meet the UL code and the metal parts are not grounded. At least I don't trust myself to try and safely make a chandelier.
Photo 1 - love that beige, black grey painting over the bed. Hard to tell the exact colors on my monitor. Need it!
LOVE everything about the first pic but can't imagine sleeping under a chandelier. What if there was an earthquake?
Hi Sarah Dobbins, I love these bedroom chandeliers. Today, we have published one blog post about large and mini chandeliers on our home decor blog. We have dropped your blog post link over there. I hope you will like it, pin it and tweet it. :)
I am trying to convince the husband that a chandelier would be great...but more importantly, where did you get the bed??? I'm totally in love with that BED!!!!!
