Since it's too cold to enjoy the beach, this bathroom seems like the perfect way to bring the beach inside. Inspired by its Laguna Beach locale, the placement of the turquoise glass tiles in a running bond mimics the movement of the ocean. The white tiles and cerused oak finish the space to create a bathroom perfect for escaping from winter.
Designed by Heidi Bonesteel and Michele Trout, the clean and fresh colors and textures of the bathroom make it feel like a spa. Heidi says that the secret to create that effect is the walk-in shower with no shower doors. One foot square tiles were used in the shower since they are quicker to install and easier to keep clean because there are fewer grout lines. The rain shower head just adds to the relax and unwind vibe of the whole space.

White Enamel Four-P...
The bathtub looks really small for the space, but it could just be how it's photographed. Love the blue tiles and the wood.
saw this in house beautiful. love pretty much everything about it.
I love how the blue tiles are used! beautiful!
lovely. i'm so glad there aren't fish-themed painted tiles on the wall. a great nod without being hokey. beautiful materials and proportions.
Love the tile in the color band, but something doesn't feel quite right about it? Too heavy a use of it?
It seems like it pushes the ceiling or the walls down and interrupts the otherwise beautiful space.
I love the color and 'flow' of the blue tiles as well as the the wood tones. I do have to admit though that I am not a fan of the square white tiles on the wall.
Love the idea. The execution isn't bad either.
I am not a huge fan of the matchy matchy look with the blocks under the tub mimicking the cabinets. I don't think the tile is achieving what it was supposed to; I think it's too thick and is making the ceiling feel low. But that could just be me.
I wonder if this would have been better if the turquoise tiles were near the floor, rather than the ceiling.
the bathroom looks beautiful...but my first thought upon seeing the tub was that it looks like it's on blocks -- like it got robbed of its feet!
Love the look of the tile but not its application. I think the whole thing would be improved by painting the ceiling a coordinating blue to read with the tile.
it's just you. the tiles up top are absolutely the best feature of this room. it's like being underwater without drowning.
jick -
I agree completely! The tiles make me feel as if I'm looking out of a window while submerged in the ocean.
The blue tiles are beautiful and a great idea.
Big tiles in the shower are unsafe. The reason small tiles are used is because the grout creates a non-slip surface. White grout is a problem, of course.
LOVE that tile. And the towels with the blue piping...gorgeous.
I feel like I'm underwater looking up. I'd feel more comfortable with the band of gorgeous blue tiles at floor level. But that's just me.
