Firm: Sean Michael Design
Client: A Single Professional Woman
Location: Upper East Side — NYC
Sean Cowan worked on this residential project and shared some details on the design inspirations and goals with us: This 2 bedroom condo was designed for a single professional female in search of a slick, modern aesthetic with feminine touches. Actually, she didn't know what she wanted when we first started working together. Her inspirations came from travel photos and restaurants she'd been to…
Later, I blended her love of vintage furniture with a new love for clean-lined modern pieces. Textures and material selections play an important role in the design along with a few non-traditional elements that break up the static arrangements. It's a small space, and scale was extremely important.

I don't really understand how it is "travel inspired"? It doesn't look that worldly at all to me. There's nothing personal enough about it to say "travel" to a viewer.
Lovely place; softly elegant, muted color palette which I love!! Beautiful.
*Her inspirations came from travel photos and restaurants she'd been to ... *
Love the softness (and memories) she's able to come home to, after a hectic day. Sweet harmony.
it would make a fabulous hotel room
I agree with Sousa609, it's beautiful but so impersonal. It does feel like a boutique hotel.
Probably not a great idea to draw from impersonal public places such as high end restaurants.
Agree with Sousa and TSP. But maybe a nice stylish hotel room is what she wanted.
I wish there was a source list with this post! Every photo has something that said "I need that!" I'm dying over the rug and love the credenza and nightstand. I'm totally going to diy myself that disc-shaped ottoman/pouf!
It looks tasteful, elegant, and high end, probably exactly what the client wanted.
I agree with the other posters. This looks like a Four Seasons one bedroom suite I stayed in once. If you replaced the grays with more beige and white, it'd be identical. Not kidding. From the choice of sofa to bed, it all just screams hotel.
Love the oversized modern poof in the living room shot. Can anyone tell me where it's from? Thanks!
I love the cocktail table can I know where its from? THANKS!!!
I think it's lovely, but I'm not getting the travel inspiration from it at all...
...I mean, where are the souveneirs from her travels?
I just stayed at a hotel in Hollywood that was more personal than this place.

The pouf is by Patricia Urquiola And costs $2,000+, I believe.
I agree w/ jaqueline after the whole day of hectic work sched you will come home w/this kind of place? uh my! it feels like you are in heaven.lol
The more professionally designed homes I see, the less bummed I am about not being able to afford a designer! Sure, they look nice, but in a generic, does-a-man-or-a-woman-live-here kind of way - like this one. Maybe spaces get decluttered and hyper styled for photo shoots?
To me, the most inspiring rooms are the result of DIY or simply the effort of someone with a good eye and interesting personality.
I love it. Initially it seems very gender neutral/ masculine, then you notice the subtle yet sumptuous textiles, a modern femininity.
golly, this is as bad as prof. design can be
