So, we took a stroll over to DUMBO on a chilly Sunday afternoon to check out the Bloom launch at ModernTots. Actually, most of the products won't be available in the U.S. until late May. We got a personal demonstration from BloomBaby's owner from down under- Simon D. May, of all of the different positions/capabilities of their "Contemporary Baby Chair"- that's what the promo card says. And it does seem to do a bit more than a highchair. They told us it is suitable for 3 months to potentially 4 years. The seat pad comes in a variety of colors and there are two dishwasher trays- one for play, and one for food. The thing that impressed us the most was the "pneumatic-assist easy-lift height adjustment". Simon made it rise and fall kind of like magic. It even has a sleeping position for infants which Simon referred to as the "pod position".
While we're not 100% convinced we're pod people- a lot of parents at ModernTots seemed quite taken by it. One guy commented, "That's not a high chair- that's a piece of art".
Another of Bloombaby's innovations, the "baby lounger", is quite sleek. It comes in either wood or clear plexiglass, and the seat is available in a variety of colors.
This is the "folding highchair". Simon told us this one is actually made to fold flat so it comes in handy in small spaces like NYC apartments. We like this one! Its design is simple and minimalist, and the price tag is a lot smaller. It retails for a bit over a hundred dollars. We love high design, and it was definitely worth a trip through the slush to walk around the beautiful surroundings of ModernTots- but we have to admit, it's hard picturing a drooling baby in some of these pieces!
