Remember when almost every male you knew had a bedroom decorated with baseball pennants and Hot Wheels? Well, those boys have grown out of their Underoos and now use shoe horns and bedside carafes and want the sophisticated bedding to match. Thankfully, grown up "masculine" bedding has evolved beyond that once ubiquitous (and hideous!) male friendly Amalfi bed in the bag.
Here is a roundup of bedding to up the style ante in any man's bedroom (or frankly any bedroom! I'd be happy with any one of these):
1 - If luxurious bedding is your game, Matteo is your name. Matteo linens are woven in Italy and sewn in L.A. from natural fibers like Egyptian cotton, Peruvian alpaca, Baltic flax and Nepalese cashmere. (If you live in LA, their annual sample sale with deals up to 75% off is this weekend!)
2 - One can never go wrong with stripes, but make them gray and add some mustard accents and you have a recipe for greatness. This bed is comprised of the Tailored Stripe Coverlet and Sham plus Stripe Print Sheet Set from West Elm.

3 - Area is a New York based firm that launched in 1990 with a casual yet distinctive style. With a wide selection of sophisticated and modern colors, their solid bedding options are a great choice. Area bedding is available from Design Public.
4 - Dwell Studio is consistently known for high quality, graphic, on trend bedding. If patterned duvet covers plus sheets plus shams is a bit much, consider a solid duvet cover paired with graphic sheets. This bedding set is a combination of the Matalasse and Pyramids collections.

Sheex Bedding
we have a simple white duvet (with a small, pale blue edging)- but when I had suggested a white pin-tuck one, my husband HATED it. He said it looked way too frufru for him.
Personally, I love those stripes, but we needed something bright white.
Just five years ago I was putting Paul Pierce and Muhammed Ali on my walls (with thumb tacks no less) and sleeping on Walmart sandpaper in a bag.
Now I am always poking into Homegoods and similar stores looking for deals on a backup set to my 700tc bright white sheets. My friends who are girls all say they are envious of my "bed scape".
My guy friends say something very different but they are just jealous cuz their probably still sleeping on Walmarts sandpaper. I will admit that one of my throw pillows does "walk the line" hahaha.
I’m thinking I love the rustic bed in photo #1. And what sort of mattress is that?
I am also loving the first bed. Can we please coin the term "Squatter Chic"?!
Um, none of these strike me as particularly Testosterone-y. Neither did the whole Well Hung post.
It's all much more Inside Metrosexual if you ask me.
The inside man series is turning out hilarious. Shocking lack of professional journalistic ethics of course, but hilarious.
Only Photo #2 looks "male" to me. I don't know any man, straight or gay, who would put up with #4's pillows. I'm sure pillow-lovin' men are out there, but I've never met one. LOL
The best part about the "Inside Man" series are the humorously homoerotic RSS titles that get generated.
I totally had baseball pennants and Hot Wheels! Plus I had a red Lamborghini Countach poster and loads of homemade rockets, along with glow-in-the-dark constellations on my ceiling (true to sky constellations).
Oh, sorry, I'm a woman, oops. See ya, AT. Nice knowin' ya when ya weren't pandering to eke out audience segments anywhere you can lower yourself to find them.
You have to distinguish between what a decorator (or someone of the opposite sex) would chose for a man and what a man would choose for himself. Most men would probably want heavy, plain, white, linens from Frette. What they would be given is quite another matter...
I don't get that first photo at all. Who doesn't put sheets on the mattress?
When my last relationship ended, I decided to make an effort with my bed by getting a simple but handsome set of sheets and a crisp white duvet cover. I did this because I live in a loft and I liked how it made my place look. I'm glad I did because I've gotten so much good feedback from women over the past few years.
I have sheets similar to the ones in the 4th photo, but they cost $100 a set rather than $260. Yikes. I'd buy those gray patterned Dwell sheets in a heartbeat, but $260 is over the top.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the first bed! Anyone know where it might be from? It even looks like a possible DIY project!
I can't even remember what my husband's bed looked like when he was single. Whatever it was, I wasn't impressed. Now, he's just happy to be living with someone who knows how to make hospital corners. Let's just say, he's thrilled with whatever I put on the bed, regardless of throw pillow to person ratio.
Am I the only one who has no clue what an "Amalfi bed in the bag" is?? What's with the beyond-obscure references?
i don't know either, Kathryn. the only association i have with the word Amalfi is the beautiful Amalfi coast in Italy.

Daylight says:
RR, it's one of those multi-use versatility mattresses.
During the day it can be used as the cushion in the window seating; padding for the dog bed, or even placed on the floor as cushion to watch a good movie. You can even also use it in the backyard or balconey on your day lounger.
Using a shoe horn or bedside carafe is hardly any standard of sophistication.
However, choosing not to use Old Spice as your favorite cologne is.
There's nothing worse than romping around on crisp, elegant manly sheets that smell like Old Spice.
^ I don't mind Old Spice so much, it's that Axe sewage that brings on the migraines and reeks so offensively that a hard slap to the face is surely an appropriate way of greeting anyone wearing it.
personally, I bought myself 2 nice sets of Missoni sheets to contrast with my dark wood furniture and dark blue walls.. a bit of fun that I can mix and match depending on my mood.... a plash of colour for the room.... zigzags are considered stripes, no?
is DWR bedding any good?
i know this comment doesnt have to do with the actual bedding..
but does any one know where that bed from the first picture can be found? i find it absolutely stunning..
Where is the bed #2 from? So much storage, looks perfect for what I need.
