When my husband and I moved into our church-house there was only one plan. Simple, clean, modern. We felt it was the only way to go with the architectural details that were still intact. It's still a work in progress, but this church isn't. It's a complete 180 from our vision and is a bit more cozy cottage. Want to see more?
Many of the recent church renovations we've seen over the last several years tend to stay on the less cluttered side of things, but this home goes all out and, where some might panic, others might feel comfortable and content. It's a warm home full of energy and looks like a fun place to spend a Wisconsin winter.

Nomade Express Slee...
Wowza.
I thought it was a consignment shop.
Very cool !
too much mismatched patterns and colors.. it is possible to have a mixture.. but i agree with the above.. it looks like a second hand store.. not like a place one would call home..
Consignment shop is a perfect way to describe it. This is such a cool space but it just looks like a cluttered mess :-/
"in tact" ?
"It's still a work in progress, but this church isn't." ??
Who writes this stuff ???
That said, I'm FAR from a minimalist, but this place is way too cluttered even for my magpie sensibilities.
The exterior isn't much better. TWO birdbaths, smack alongside each other? Ditto for THREE watering cans? It really does look more like a retail outlet than a home.
I love churches converted into homes or apartments. This one is neat, but I felt like it was just a tad too busy. Appeared messy.
This might have had a chance before the blue and white checkerboard floor treatment....
Lovely original architectural details, though.
I'm all for mixing and matching but this is a Glamour Don't and should have a black patch over it.
Really a visual mess.
Wow. There's a lot going on in there and I'm not sure it's in a good way. . . .
Sorry to add to the negativity, but a little editing would go a long way. There are so many really fun features here, but they get lost.
I usually love church conversions to a home but not this one. I guess I like the idea of home being a sanctuary and the architecture of a church usually adds to that, but this is way too busy for me.
Whoa. This is more cottage-y than modern. I'm from wisconsin and there was an amazing church conversion in my home town of Lake Mills. I've been to some of swanky parties the owners threw....wish they would post up their photos here.
Anyone who re-purposes an existing building gets a thumbs up, regardless of how they decorate it.
This is such a tonic after the strict minimalist interiors of most church-to-home renovations. This sort of cluttered, eccentric, homespun interior is perfectly suited to the architecture.
I agree, however, that the exterior needs work.
After seeing the 5 pics here, no, I don't want to see more. Get rid of half of this stuff and it might look interesting.
I adore this couple's sense of whimsy, but my chest tightens looking at these cluttered photos. Way too much dusting to deal with.
Why are there 2 dining tables in the same room?
I followed the link and took a look at the full home.
There were some interesting ideas, and a lot of it was quite charming.
The church architecture itself is really beautiful- I don't understand the need to fill every single square inch with "stuff"-but *I* don't live there.
I am not a fan of many many many pairings of metal lawn furniture chairs throughout the house- looks cheap to my eye.
But I like the passion for color and the reuse of older architectural elements and antiques.
Interesting post-thanks AT
Kudos for lovingly restoring a beauty of an old cream city brick building (as a Milwaukeean I know the value of cream city brick). Not at all my taste and way, way too busy to really be able to appreciate the space, but I'm glad they love it.
I thought it was a thrift store. The house could use some editing.
this is so cute !
