For many years we've been seeing bottles repurposed as glassware for your tabletop. It's been happening for decades and has gained popularity once again. This project takes that concept to a new stylish level…
After seeing wine-bottle-turned-tumblers at a gift shop, Kate (aka Centsational Girl) was inspired to get her own bottle cutting kit. Rather than make drinking glasses, Kate turned her bottle into a stylish, subtly striped vase.
After removing the top of the bottle with the help of the cutting kit and a little fire, Kate added gold stripes some stickers. The new vase is now taking center stage in this mantel grouping. So drink up, today's wine could be tomorrow's holiday gifts!

Shaw's Original Fir...
sweet! i JUST found this yesterday. would totally do this if I had the time to do this (and more importantly room to store them)
I can't believe how much those stickers make a difference! Really nice!
Awesome!
Your definition of subtle is very different than mine. Those stripes look totally 80s to me. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but they aint subtle.
Very kind Sarah, thank so much for the feature!
I particularly like the larger short vase made from the larger wine bottle. Those things are spendy to purchase for what you get. They're great for larger, fuller arrangements. Problem for me is the bottle cutter would be equally spendy no more than I would use it.
Anyone have an idea where I might be able to have a couple bottles cut?
I found a way to cut glass without actually cutting it! Plus, it's pretty cool to do. http://jaimelyn11.blogspot.com/2011/07/cutting-glass.html
The fact that it has had a history as a bottle IS very subtle. This item could also be art-deco.
i love that this can be done with a dremel, which i already have! apparently lowes/hd sells a clamp jig that will hold the dremel in whatever position you want so you can keep both hands on the bottle - brilliant!
Very nice! To take it to the next level, perhaps judicious use of glass etching cream vs sticker striping?
I know someone who makes light fixtures out of liquor and wine bottles. After he cuts the necks off, he cuts a hole the bottom to put the bulb thingy in. He either hangs them or fashions wall mounts for them. His girlfriend has his lamps all over the place at the inn she owns.
Oh, I guess it's a socket, not a "bulb thingy." Brain glitch.
Oh and BTW, those aren't gold stickers around the vase - those stripes are painted (with the use of painter's tape and gold spray paint . . . .)
Kate
Cool! I gotta get me a bottle cutting kit.
Great Idea!
This brings back memories from the 70's when we had little or no money !! Also candleholders from Castlevetro, Black Tower and Mateus wine bottles.
