- What I Love About My Small Home:
- My warehouse loft began as a dilapidated, empty box. It had dirty floors, no plumbing, broken and foggy plexiglass windows, but a lot of potential.
I love that the place gave me the opportunity to experiment with an alternate DIY style of living. I was able to design and build my kitchen, shower, bedroom, and storage exactly as I wanted them.
After the build it became a beautiful place with a sunny, southern exposure in which to live, work, and grow veggies. It requires minimum electricity, and my water is heated by the sun.
I love the rustic lifestyle that my warehouse offers.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- My biggest challenge was configuring the space in such a way that I could eat, sleep, and relax, but also be able to work on carpentry projects and bicycle repair in the same space.
I accomplished this by building a lofted bedroom with a built-in shower, kitchen, closet, and storage. The loft also holds my two water tanks and homemade solar water heater. I suspended the largest span of the loft from the ceiling to keep the space below wide open. Whenever I need to work on a project, my couch is easily pushed out of the living room to create a large workspace.
