What do you get when you put two (early) twenty-somethings, a year and a half out of college, whose wallets can't make appearances at Pottery Barn and the Merchandise Mart... well you still get fabulous but our own version of it.
My apartment is filled with vintage finds from some of my favorite hometown antique shops in Terre Haute, Indiana to homemade items and restored furniture I made with my mom — our apartment is anything but boring. My roommate, Becky and I have intertwined the perfect combination of 'modern vintage' on a pretty little budget! I'm an avid reader of Apartment Therapy and Design Sponge blogs so I'm always gathering ideas and instead of picking up the latest 'Glamour' or 'People' I save up for my next home design book. Currently I'm reading 'Domino: the Book of Decorating' and the pages are already filled with sticky notes.
When moving into our little two story coach house, just three weeks ago, my roommate and I knew we weren't going to be able to paint the stark white walls, so we were going to have to improvise with some color, but we didn't want to make it look like a circus house or our past college dorm room. We kept the furniture in neutral colors, except for our newly purchased lavender coffee table/fabric coated trunk. Many of the pieces you will see on the walls are simple little finds that we found at some of our favorite local boutiques. The pillows were found at antique shops and a Hobby Lobby. The bedrooms are very different, mine is 'Anthropologie inspired' and my roommate uses 3-4 colors to make it modern and comfy. The bedrooms were tough, because we had to deal with 'A frame' walls and the only wall for our beds to go on were against a window. I'm a huge fan of natural light, and I thought covering a window would completely downplay the feel of the room, but it actually doesn't bother me at all having set it all up now.
Additionally, our home is very inspirational — one of our good friends recently took a tour of our apartment and goes, "This place is just so... inspirational!" I'm not sure if its the quotes, phrases or pictures we've framed or if its simply the atmosphere we've created... but I'm pretty proud of our 'modern vintage' apartment on a strict little budget.
Here's to being 24, broke but still fabulous!

White Enamel Flatwa...
Really cute place! But I have to say, if you showed me these pictures and asked me who lives there, I'd say a woman in her 60s, not two 24 year old young'ns!
I would never have guessed you guys have only been living here for 3 weeks. I am so impressed! If you have managed to create something like this in only three weeks, I can't imagine what you will come up with the longer you live in your space.
Nicely done!
A coach house in Lakeview? Unless they're just house poor, they can't be that broke.
haha! I thought the same thing mary79! Though the place is very cute.
That bedroom is beautiful. Looks very comfy.
when I was broke, I certainly didn't live like this, nor have the funds for so much stuff
This is really lovely and looks like a real home.
House Tour please :-)
You go Abby!! this doesn't not look 'broke'! kudos to you!
I love it!
Yes, full house tour - - PLEASE!
Love it! Where did you get the red paisley comforter?
Very cozy. The crooked picture might drive me bats though. :)
house tour!
My husband's (childhood) dresser that we still have in our home is the exact same on as in the last photo with different (original) hardware.
this is awesome, you to have fantastic taste :)
Thanks everyone for your sweet comments! I would love for my house to be a 'House Tour', someday! I can honestly say most of the furniture were hand-me-downs from my family members, thrift shop/antique finds or creations that my mom and I made! I'm blessed to have such great family and friends who passed down their old treasures to me (-:
Eileen Marie, this dresser was my mother's growing up (she is 50 now, so maybe your husband and her had the same one!) The hardware came from Hobby Lobby and on sale at Anthro. All were less than $2.95 each!
Tnccat1969-- the Paisley comforter came from Anthropologie that I got on sale! I've still seen it on sale in stores too.
Happy Saturday everyone!
Abby
