Abe is our fourth baby, so we're running low on bedrooms around here. We do, however, have a ridiculously long master bedroom, so we opted to put up a room divider and use one part of the master as a nursery for now.
We needed the space to flow well with the grown-up bedroom side of the room but still be a fun, colorful space for a baby. We went with a subtle ocean theme, inspired by the whale drawer pulls I found for the dresser (passed down from Abe's grandfather) that we refinished. I like to think of the style as "restrained whimsy."
The only things we bought new were the crib and rocker (both from IKEA) and a few accessories. Most of the pieces in the room we made or re-made ourselves. My favorites are the wooden whale over the crib (I sketched it out on plywood, and my husband cut it out with a jigsaw), the squid bookcase, and the mobile over the changing table.
