Inspiration for my palette:
When we bought our home it was drab, outdated, and neglected. Every room was white-- walls, ceiling, floor, trim--but instead of modern it looked institutional and lifeless. We wanted something the exact opposite of blah and felt that the dark chocolate color matched our personalities while also giving our little den a cozy study feel. The dark color accentuates the bright accessories and our artwork, as well.
Colors used in my room:
The walls are Behr's Moroccan Henna and the trim is a basic white that our hardware store had in five gallon buckets.
Tips for using color successfully:
Pay attention to the way light plays in the room. Lighting can completely change a color; what works in one room may not work in another.
