My inspiration for our nursery came from the kitchen towel aisle of Target. Yes, you read that correctly. I just happened to be meandering down the aisle one day when a set of DwellStudio kitchen towels caught my eye; it was the most genius use of yellows and greys!
And a little bit further down there was a matching tablecloth that just got my wheels-a-turning. I purchased both items and just knew that the nursery would be a mix of whites, yellows and greys. And why not some peacock blue for good measure?
I wanted to DIY as much as I could in the room, so most of it was homemade. I even made the tablecloth into the hamper liner, wall art and the crib skirt. I was also on strict orders not to paint walls or murals (as I originally wanted to)...because someone in this marriage needs to be practical I guess.
So the goal was to create a comforting, inviting space for our new addition that (a) didn't break the bank (b) wouldn't alter the room entirely and (c) would allow me to be creative and create many of the elements on my own.
While I still wish I could have painted the trim at least, I'm quite happy with how the room turned out. We decided to keep the queen-sized bed in the nursery for those late night feedings (the nursery is on the second floor and the master is on the first). We think it might come in hand for the first year or so. Down the road I imagine removing the bed and creating a fun play/reading area.
Thanks Janna! Readers, see more of Abigail's room at TWSST (and check out her sources here).

I can't decide if it's super sweet or very bland... maybe both! I love the details, but the overwhelming beige is tough. Maybe a big piece of colourful art would wake it up a tiny bit, or a pretty carpet. I think overall I like it a lot. It's very functional though, which is better than On a practical note, having the bed in there is genius! I wish more parents thought of that :)
Hi, I like your room very much, each piece is just lovely, but I have to agree with LorienQ that a bit more colour would go a long way to lifting the room as a whole. For example I love the clean white dresser with the white (looks like comfy minky dot fabric) change mat, but it gets lost a bit, how about making a bright yellow or even turquoise cover to tie in with the mobil and quilt on the crib. You could also easily and cheaply swap out the pillow sham on the chair at the same time.
Or highlight the lovely bunny art on the wall with a black frame to match the curtains (or are they navy? hard to tell).
I love that you retained the queen sized bed - very smart! I bet it gets used a lot, at first to crash out on and feed and later - what better spot for story time and quiet time before bed could there be?
Overall, great room, not over the top baby-baby, but it doesn't deny that this is the baby's space. Lucky Abigail :)
I love the large alphabet above the crib and that chair looks way comfortable. That hamper is super cute too. Great Job.
Or paint the closet doors! That would be *awesome*!
Thanks so much for featuring Abby's room, AT! We are spending lots of time in there these days and it's so nice to have a comfortable place to play.
I agree with some of the comments saying there isn't enough color on the walls, etc. Unfortunately I was operating under a strict "no painting" request from my husband. So the tan walls and beige trim had to stay. I really wanted grey walls and white trim. Maybe someday. :) Although I think I may start looking for a colorful rug to liven up the space just a bit!
I really like the subdued look - especially because our nursery will be a guest bedroom as well. If you did want more pop, mobiles, rugs etc could add more color but it works a is too. Curious as to where you got your dresser and is the crib and dresser part of a set?
