A great way to add an accent color or to add more of an already existing accent color is to paint the back wall of a bookshelf.
This of course means the bookcase may become even more of a focal point in which case some some extra styling may be needed!

My bookcase in my bedroom has an interior fuchsia accent (so fun!) while the outside is a very neutral light grey...

I've been wanting to do this to the built-ins in my family room, but haven't really come up with an overall look for the room yet...
it's currently our TV / disco / storage / 70's porn set / playroom...

I bought IKEA Billy bookcases and just ignored the backs of the kit. They looked cheap and flimsy anyway, and now I can see my pretty orange wall through the cases.
I put some fushia butcher paper on the back of my billy bookcases. Was cheap and easy, and it looks cool.
I'm a huge fan of this! Such an great/easy way to add an accent color.
I love this idea, but I've realized that I currently have too many books (and too few shelves) to implement it. You can hardly see the back panel of my bookcases!
Good idea for adding a little pop of color without a whole lot of commitment.
