Perhaps it is just that I am already missing the bits of glimmer and gilt from the holidays but I am making my own prediction for decor this year…
Pantone has already predicted that turquoise is the color of the year and I am now predicting that gold or brass accents will also be very popular. This is not based on anything in particular, just a feeling I have.

I want those floors in the first picture.
Hmm...so the standard-issue brass chandelier in my rental will suddenly be "in." I'm not sure that will make me like it any more. I'm still trying to find an affordable way to blend it in with my more modern decor. So far, I have found a sheer chandelier cover shade, which would be nice, but it's $200. For that, I could get a whole new light fixture (which I would do if the landlord were not opposed).
I like it!
Swordspoint--yes--that was my first thought too!
Julie--can you paint the chandelier? I love those lacquer looking ones...
I predicted this last year...
...I guess I was just too ahead of the times.
Notice too how the faucets and fixtures in several of these photos are still chrome? I enjoy the mix - it feels warmer and more interesting.
I'm such a sucker for brass. Can't help it...it's so warm and rich-looking!
I also like the brass/chrome combo. Mixed metals are fun. I also like brass with wrought iron.
bluesky22 - Yeah, I like those, too, but no, I can't paint the chandelier. It has to stay as-is. The brass is just so brassy, for lack of a better word. I like the look of traditional chandeliers covered by drum shades and can't figure out why the shade is so expensive. I've seen DIY instructions, but I don't have a good track record with DIY projects.
And I just got around to changing my brass interior door knobs to brushed silver.
Julie - there's a huge difference between low-grade apartment/tract builder brass and high end and even mid pricing on brass fixtures.
I too have one of those ugly apartment issue "brass" chandeliers and I hate it with all my might. I can switch it out but I don't intend to stay here long enough to make the time and spend the money. I've even contemplated taking the ugly thing down and putting a white electrical plate to cover the hole. Again, I don't plan on being here that long so it's more effort than I am willing to put in.
I have looked at the options out there and there are some nicer brass fixtures but the pricing is considerably higher.
Isn't that chandelier technically "copper" color? Copper I can get behind, brass is taking me a little longer. (Although I just bought a brass mallard this weekend. Shame on me.)
I think gold with grey is cool, not a fan of the other (white/gold - could take it or leave it).
"Isn't that chandelier technically "copper" color?"
I think it's bronze...
I'm glad gold tones might be back in style, I just dropped $165 on a custom frame that's gold. Despite all my frames being black or silver, the gold was really the only color that complimented the photograph correctly. I hope it ends up looking similar to photo #8.
Are those "booties" on the sideboard in photo # 7 ???
