I saw Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan last night, and I'm still trying to decipher the movie in my head. The movie was horrifically beautiful. Of course, some images from the movie I don't care to remember, yet, for some reason I can't think of anything other than feathers. I'd like to incorporate a few touches of feathers around my apartment, somehow. Luckily this holiday season feathers abound.
But you have to be careful! Adding feathers can easily become over-the-top — adding too many will make your room look beyond glam, which isn't always a good thing. Here are some examples of just the right amount of feathers. If you like the look, try it in your place.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I have two of the glass bulbs with feathers on my tree and they're beautiful! I've seen them in many different shops, so they should be easy to find. I've gotten quite a few compliments on them from people who have come over to visit.
Just an aside: wild bird feathers, even those you find fallen on the ground, are illegal to possess. The Fish and Game department can confiscate them and I think (not certain) that there are fines as well. I mention this in case anybody was thinking of moving on to SELLING things made with feathers. (I doubt the F&G will inspect your holiday decor, but they HAVE been known to grab crafts for sale -- and advertised -- made with feathers, which can be an expensive loss to the crafter.)
Those glass bulbs would be a really cool way to display hand-tied flies, too, if you're not using them to fish.
Maybe some vintage feather decor?

Thanks, SherryBinNH. You saved me from having to write the same warning.
