- Inspiration for my palette:
- I am naturally drawn to dark colors and the feeling of warmth and coziness that they create. Think leathers, velvets, and warm wooden accents. This particular color, Sealskin, first began as a choice for painting the mantel---it wasn't long before it had gone beyond the brick borders and onto every wall. Dramatic, dark backgrounds make all whites much more crisp and all colors more vibrant.

Don't be afraid of it. If you like dark, go dark! And a limited palette does not stifle creativity---instead, it allows you to introduce new and old materials much more easily and more often (which is especially helpful if you are a chronic re-arranger like yours truly).

Room for Color
I'm not one for browns, but I really like the sealskin colour. I think I really like it's name, haha.
Love the sealskin color - it makes the room feel so cozy and comfortable!
I love the way the white trim and furniture sets off the dark paint. The effect is wonderfully cozy. Someday I'm going to get up the guts to go this dark in a room. Someday.
Great - bold and decisive, with a luxe vibe.
This is gorgeous!
Interesting how some colors and intensities seem to have "seasons"; I change some accent pieces accordingly as the days lengthen or shorten. This is an inviting, enveloping space, but even with crisp white details, to me it reads like a cold-weather room (nothing wrong with that). Addie: How does it feel in Tennessee's warm seasons? Do you add more bright touches or switch out some accessories?
I love it, absolutely. I have been wanting on of those blankets. Source?
Tough call. Pic 1 & 5 say 'sophisticated'. 2, 3, & 4 were a letdown.
Yes---a place called REVIVAL. Visit revivalhome.com, and if its not online, I know for certain they have one in the store---and they ship!
I really like pic #2..the contrast between the dark walls with the white bookcases and the pops of color are so wonderful!
I loved pics...1,2,3,4 and 5. I thought all your pics were sophisticated and fun, dig the atmosphere the "seal skin" color creates!
This is fabulous. I recently painted my stairwell and landing in farrow and Balls 'Off Black' and it looked so good that I went on and did my bathroom the same. My entry is 'Jane's Comic Strip room' but your entry gets my vote. Its elegant, stylish and has a regency feel to it although with a 21st Century twist. Love it. Good luck!
Love the wall color. Love how the table lamps cast a warm glow on it. Not loving it on the bricks of the fireplace though. I keep going back to that picture and wondering how I would have painted that whole wall, bookshelf, fireplace situation. Not sure what the answer is but it is a fun problem solving challenge.
The colors you chose really balance the room well. Sadly too many people think you cannot use dark colors in limited space. Many times it actually adds size when applied correctly..as you have done! Great job!!
If I could have voted for you twice...I would have!
This room looks comfortable and makes me feel at home even though I'm looking at a computer.
I love it!
