If we ruled the world all furniture would be made with lockable casters. As a serial rearranger, we value ease of mobility first and foremost. But in the case of this trash find ottoman (we recovered it with the fabric you see in the photo) we wanted to be able to move it more easily on our shag carpet...
So we decided to add casters to the piece. It works like a charm! Lest anyone has a hissy fit from looking closely at the photo and noticing that the metal plates used to attach the casters to the ottoman are too big for the footprints of the tapered ottoman legs, just remember that we were committed to a "use what you have" approach and we had this fabric, this ottoman, and these casters already on hand. And no one has been negatively impacted by the imperfect fit. And the sweetie rolls just fine!
So check out this great post about casters and give them a try when your ottoman wants to be liberated from stagnating in one place for too long.

I think wheels should be put on everything in the house - the make cleaning so easy and are great for moving furniture around for a party or just rearranging for the 15th time that month, I love putting the furniture in different spots all the time and changing it up. I have a friend who is on her 6th apartment and the lay out is exactly the same in every apartment....its gets a bit old!!

I remember how nearly all moderately-priced sofas sold in the 60's had big brass ball-casters for front feet.
Is that the ikea vitten shag rug? ours sheds more than our dog. It drives me insane.
Anywho, casters are a great idea. I have my grandfather's ww2 trunk/footlocker as our coffee table and I used casters on it to make it moveable and high enough. It's fantastic.
I love casters as well. Our dining table was too low to slide the armchairs under it, and it very heavy. Casters solved the problem!
We have a sweet little table that my pre-schoolers use all the time for snacks and crafts-- but it's really too small for the two of them. I decided to make them a bigger activity table using materials we've got on hand, so I'm painting a large, simple coffee table, coating it with polyurethane, and adding casters. The casters will bring the table up to just the right height for my children and if they need to, they'll be able to move it by themselves.
