Think your space is bold because you've got intense red walls or a bright orange couch? Close, but no cigar. To really push the limits of boldness in your interior spaces, it's time to experiment with colorful pattern on crazy pattern. And we've got a set of photos that will have you wishing you were mixing prints right this minute.
We could try and give you some tips on how to implement pattern on pattern, but the truth is it's a dicey, feel-it-out-on-your-own sort of thing that just has to be tackled to be successful. Go with your gut when facing two (or three) patterns that you think should go together. They could have a common element and you could have a reason why you think they'll go together, but you also don't have to. It's your house and if you think two things go together, they do! Proof that plenty of folks delve into the world of pattern on pattern with brave hearts:

Nice examples! They all play well together, although a few of the designs are too hectic for my taste. And these examples do suggest that "rules" for mixing patterns are hard to nail down, although I think having at least one element in common between every two designs in a mix is a useful starting point. (muted ethnic patterns incorporating white, red-orange in at least two designs, all black and white in various textures, whatever...)
There definitely really is no right way to do pattern on pattern, but when done right can have really fabulous results. I love the second photo the most!
