Whether you're a renter, a color-phobe, or a restless decorator, pillows are probably the fastest, cheapest, and easiest way to incorporate new colors into your home. Throws and blankets are similarly comforting and portable accents.
I am one of those people whose home has lots of pillows, because they're practical but also a fun and low-commitment way to experiment with colors and patterns. In these white rooms, the contrast really makes the colorful pillows and throws stand out.

Howard Butcher Bloc...
WOW... It's EXTREMLY RARE that i find parque (sp) floors that i actually like, but i'm truly LOVING floors in pic #8!
What I particularly enjoy about a lot of these pics is the use of texture. I'm challenging myself to not rely on painting walls to decorate every room of my home. It's not easy to bring it all together, especially when you are slowly piecing the place together on a tight budget! Though I'm sorely tempted to try a wall of wallpaper.
Lovely--all of them but isn't #3 walls painted grey? Or am I being nic-picky!? :oD
Love, love that #3 has a headboard that are the windows with a view of those beautiful trees.
The flooring in picture number 8 is in a pattern called Bargello that usually is done for brick floors.
I saw the last picture in Style At Home a while ago (I have a subscription) and I have been trying to hunt down that geisha pillow ever since - even as a pattern, I wouldn't mind doing the embroidery myself if I can't get the finished product.
This is definitely my preferred way to add color, whether in a rental or my own home. Nice white walls and then liven it up with a few colorful accessories - it is a very Scandinavian look.
@DANIELLE TURNER I would call the flooring in Picture 8 "Herringbone Parquet" (perhaps it has different names in different parts of the world)
The thing is, unless there's enough color and pattern and texture, then little dibs and dabs here and there just look tentative and temporary.
Big expanses of white walls just look so bland and sterile.
Lovely folk art textiles are good at making a space warm and cozy, yet unusual.
I like white walls. Easier to change up accessories and room decor rather than repainting. To me there's nothing bland about having them.
I just got a new multicolored floral comforter set. I was wondering where I can find some cute, colorful fuzzy throw pillows at an affordable price.
