Name: Adelaide Bee (9 months)
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Division: Single Room
Room Size: 65 square feet
Tip for Living Small with Kids: Buy less. Purge often. Embrace the chaos. We created small play areas in several rooms of the apartment, and after Adelaide's put to bed, we wander around, cleaning up the mess! I can only imagine how much worse it will be once walking and crawling start! In the meantime, we are constantly working on eliminating anything that we no longer need, in an effort to keep the clean up to a minimum.
Biggest Design Challenge in this Room: Designing on a budget. We hardly purchased anything new for Adelaide's room, but moved items in from other spaces to create a nursery that felt fresh and new. We received the crib as a gift, and the rocker and 'changing table' are hand-me-downs from friends. This room used to be our studio/office, and I think our biggest challenge has been giving that up that space and making room for work in the rest of the apartment.
Favorite Thing About This Room: I love the colors... We wanted a girls room, without being "girly". We chose a blue-green wall color, and accented with bright yellows and pinks. I also really love the retro pieces, and the fact that so many of the items in her room are handmade. Several blankets were made by great-grandmothers, my husband and I made the mobile (based on a pattern from Spool Sewing), and I made the bunting, the quilt on the rocking chair, the curtains and trim on the shade, and the fabric covered Lack shelves from Ikea. As a textile designer, and avid sewer, knitter and maker, the style of her room came together easily, using fabric and yarn that I had on hand.
Thanks for your entry Holly and good luck!

crookedshmooked: does your adelaide have big fat cheeks too? if so, perhaps they're kindred spirits? ooh, or maybe we are!
Great Job! I really love the use of all the different fabrics; it has a warm and please snuggle right in vibe. The mobile is beyond words!
Are you the seamstress? I just love everything sewn in this room! What a great style you have ...great job!
Ha, my daughter was almost an Adelaide (turned out to be a Sadie) and we have a similar nursery too - Spool birds and stretched fabric too. Obviously I love this room!
Definitely the best! Gorgeous. Lucky little girl, obviously very loved. (Yes it gets more chaotic and untidy!! Never a dull moment with little girls).
