What I Love About My Small Home:
Even though my cottage is tiny, it has high ceilings and it's surrounded by huge windows, so it doesn't feel too small. I work from home, so I spend a lot of time here, but I don't feel trapped—I have great views of trees and flowers. I also love the rolling ladder that goes up to the storage loft, which I use to reach books that I've set along the edge.
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
Storage is key. I don't have huge closets, so I also use boxes and baskets. I've figured out a place for each of my belongings to live, so the whole space can feel as open as possible.
I also used an online tool (Floorplanner) when I first moved in to try out different arrangements for everything. It's surprising how many possibilities there are even for a tiny space. It was especially helpful for me because I have a Murphy bed and had to figure a way for everything to fit when the bed is down.
Last, I think big things sometimes work well in little apartments...here I have a giant rug, and in my last apartment I had a huge yellow Danish chair.
