Before I tell you any more about Piet, let's lay it all out on the table: Sadly, this sweet little ethanol-burning fireplace is not available for sale. It's the master's thesis project of Fredrik Cavallius, who wanted to create a portable, chimney-free indoor stove. Maybe if we all love it enough, Cavallius will find a way to produce them? Details after the jump...

Behind Piet's brass reflector, which creates a warm, golden light, there's a layer of rockwool insulation, which keeps the ceramic egg-shaped shell from getting too hot to place near walls or furniture. Because the fireplace burns ethanol instead of wood, it produces no smoke or smell, which makes it convenient for small-space living.

We're curious about just how much heat the fireplace actually provides... but at the very least it makes a lovely mod lamp with a romantic, flickering light source. Perfect for mood lighting in the corner of a bedroom or dining room.

OooooooooOooooo pretty. I want it.
Super cute! I would definitely be in the market for one of these if they are produced. It's a great look!
I like the looks of this a lot, though I wonder how much of a fire hazard it might be.
It's beautiful!
One might wonder about the asphyxiation hazard as well.
I love this piece and it's an ingenious thesis project! Living in Southern Cali home builders think we have no use for fire places so this would be a perfect addition to be able to cozy up. Plus, it's beautiful - do begin to manufacture at a reasonable price!!
Oh my god! This is soooo awesome! The thing I miss most from my childhood home is being able to light the fireplace on a chilly Minnesota night. This would be so great for small apartment dwellers! I really hope he finds a way to produce this!
I want one! So cute! It would be perfect for my little home.
love it!
uh... yes, please!
It's a beautiful form. The interior sort of looks like a set to a Justin Timberlake music video. But the legs need work. I think a pedestal base would look a lot better. Those legs look like an after thought.
@JoanneM...I was wondering about that, too. Even though there is no smoke, it still removes oxygen from the air and adds carbon dioxide (like human breath). I wonder at what rate this occurs...
Wow. Beautiful.
lovely.
add me to the list of people who wants to buy one. seriously!!! i'm obsessed.
please produce these...please!!!
@Comicgeek, I'm thinking those legs are probably more stable than a pedestal base would be, unless the pedestal base was REALLY wide... that's probably why they chose the legs they did.
I could faint with delight.
This is hot. There is a missed opportunity if this is the end of this story.
I love it enough. Please?
this master thesis project gets an A from me!
i love this. would buy it in a heartbeat.
Love it.
Want it.
Need it.
Seriously.
Clearly there is not a pet in that house. I can only imagine what my cat looks like fully engulfed in flame after trying to jump in.
