The array of tech devices designed for outdoor use is kind of mind-boggling: communication devices, music players, speakers, solar chargers, not to mention more practical items like UV water disinfecting wands and GPS units. For those looking to get away without really getting away, here's a selection of devices taht can help you keep connected and entertained while enjoying the great outdoors (just be sure to be respectful of others, as there's nothing worse than camping or hiking near people blasting music) these last few days of summer ...

V.I.O. POV HD Camera System
We think the V.I.O. is the best POV (Point Of View) action cam available today. It has the widest field of view and built to handle the rigors of snowboarding, mountain biking and even skydiving. The camera part of the system is very small and mountable to almost any surface and equipped with a remote for easy start/stop recording. It feeds on AA batteries and shoots 1080p or 720p video, while the internal memory can be expanded from 4GB to 32GB with a separate memory card.

Brunton Solaris 4 USB Solar Charger
Unless you're glamping it up, availability of power sockets outdoors is usually a rarity, so you might want to come prepared to use solar to charge up your mobile devices. The Solaris 4 charger is super lightweight at 6.3 ounce, making it a backpacking favorite. It can charge your phone in under 2 hours while being tied to your backpack, so you can juice up while hitting the trails. You can even pair it with a power storage unit for added extra juice when in low light conditions (like at night).

Supertooth Disco Speakers
The 14" wide Supertooth speaker is a compact, yet powerful wireless speakers system perfect for enjoying a few tunes around the campfire or by a swimming hole. No plug-in needed, battery operated and can connect via Bluetooth. 28 watts of power for up to 3 hours of continuous playing.

Yurbuds Ironman Performance Raising Earphones
Practically an oxymoron: comfortable earbuds! But that's what these actually are, earbuds designed to stay in place with Ironman requirements in mind, much less during your hike expeditions. The soft, playable silicone, will adapt even to the smaller of ear canals without bothering the wearer. Sound quality is superb as is the durable materials used.
