During our Escapes month on AT: The Nursery, we are posting great photos and tips for traveling with children from our readers. Please check here for all the details. The first twenty submissions posted will receive the official AT bib. Hope to hear from you soon!

Brother and sister Zachary, 6, and Avielle, 1, along with thirteen other family members enjoy time in a rented beach house on Hatteras Island on the outer banks of North Carolina. Their mother, Anneliese, shares some practical tips for travel to a beach house.

Your favorite baby or child-friendly activity there: Our favorite thing to do was to hunt for crabs, both the little sand dabs and the bigger blue crabs. The best way to find big crabs is to go out after dark with a flashlight...they're all over the beach!

Your best tip or words of wisdom for traveling with kids: My best tip for traveling with kids is to see whether you can rent baby equipment at your destination. We rented a full-sized crib and a jogging stroller. The baby sleeps much better in a real crib and it saved our jogging stroller from rusting in the sand and surf.

Your favorite way to make it feel like home: My favorite way to make our rental house feel like home is to not make it feel like home...vacation is for junk food, staying up late, and otherwise breaking all the rules!

An item you MUST take with you when traveling: Must-have items for this trip were walkie-talkies. They saved many trips between the beach and the house and were otherwise just a lot of fun for all the kids.

Thanks for sharing, Anneliese!

Don't forget to send us your favorite family escape!
