Names/Ages: Jane (pictured, 3.5 years) and Grey (16 months)
Vacation Location: Bishop, California
Favorite Baby or Child Friendly Activity There: Exploring, Hiking, Swimming, Mule Days (Memorial Weekend), seeing the horses (sitting on one, thanks to a friend), and soaking up some real mountain sunshine. An hour or less in every direction leads to a state or national park, a ghost town, rocks to climb, or a picturesque lake.
Best Tip for Traveling with Kids: Keep your family's normal schedule in mind, and try to plan activities accordingly. We tried to plan one big activity each day so we could be sure Grey still got his nap. This also gave us time to relax and really enjoy the scenery.
Favorite Way to Make it Feel Like Home: We like to find a grocery store and buy some of the foods we eat at home. Of course we also like to look for treats we wouldn't have at home. This is vacation...
Jane and Grey each have a special blanket they sleep with. Bringing these along is like bringing a piece of home.
An Item you MUST Take With You While Traveling: A sippy cup. The kids are happier if they're not thirsty.
We also pack books for everyone, our laptop with movies for the three-year-old, little figures or cars (the figures, such as Play Mobil or Little People, love to explore the airplane), and snacks. And it helps to have a dollar or two so you can buy a banana for your crying one-year-old when you get stuck at the Oakland Airport for an extra hour.
