During our Escapes month on Ohdeedoh, we are posting great photos and tips for traveling with children from our readers. Please check here for all the details. Hope to hear from you soon.
When it comes to good music, it's never too early to get kids started. Miles is only six weeks old in this picture, but by all reports he had a blast at the Annual Great Lakes Folk Festival in East Lansing, Michigan. His mom says that "all Miles needed to make it feel like home was a snuggly blanket and a warm pair of arms to sleep in." Sounds pretty good to us, too!
Location where photo was taken: This was taken in East Lansing Michigan at the Annual Great Lakes Folk Festival. The photo is of Miles wrapped up in his dad's arms (and wearing the little MSU cap we had to buy because I wasn't prepared for such a dip in the temp; good thing it's his dad's alma mater) staying warm late into the evening and relaxing to some excellent music.
Favorite activity: While they always have different child friendly activities there every year, usually centered around the theme for each year, we love hanging out at the Valley Court stage and experiencing many different genres of folk music. And, while little Miles was too young for this at just 6 weeks, children are free to run and dance all over the lawn and 'groove' to the music as well as sample many different varieties of food from the various food vendors. (My favorite: Ethiopian).
Best piece of advice: When traveling outdoors, always be prepared for an unexpected change in the weather. It got unseasonably cold very unexpectedly and we had to go and buy some warmer clothes as we were an hour from home.
Must-have travel item: At his current age, I MUST take my sling when traveling to make moving about with my little one and breastfeeding easy.
