During our Escapes month on Ohdeedoh, we are posting great photos and tips for traveling with children from our readers. Please check here for all the details. The first twenty submissions posted will receive the official AT bib. Hope to hear from you soon.
Mom says six month old Sophie thrives on adventure. We think she must be right. Just look at that twinkle in her eye. Sophie visited three countries this summer.
The city and location the photo was taken in: Puttgarden, Germany, while waiting for the ferry to Denmark. (We're ex-pats living in Sweden, and this was Sophie's first road trip – a 15-hour drive!)
Your favorite baby or child-friendly activity there: Germany has awesome toy stores. They're like Starbucks... one on every corner. Sophie scored some great wooden toys from Haba and Selecta. The area outside Wiesbaden also has a wonderful trail system, and we enjoyed taking Sophie for walks in the wheat fields every day in her Baby Björn.
Your best tip or words of wisdom for traveling with kids: We took Sophie on six airplane rides this summer, and having a wrap-type sling was much more convenient than a baby carrier like the Ergo or Baby Björn (which we also brought). I could pop Sophie in and out as needed, and still breastfeed with it on.
Your favorite way to make it feel like home: I brought some of Sophie's favorite music, including The Planet Sleeps. It was a lifesaver when we got stuck in traffic on the autobahn and Sophie was getting fussy. As soon as we popped in some familiar tunes she was happy again.
An item you MUST take with you when traveling: The Pogy travel bed. It folds down so it's easy to pack. Sophie has been traveling a lot this summer, and has slept in eight different places. And she's slept even better than she does at home in that thing.
