During our Escapes month on Ohdeedoh, we are posting great photos and tips for traveling with children from our readers. Please check here for all the details. The first twenty submissions posted will receive the official AT bib. Hope to hear from you soon.
This photo features Theo and his mother on the Peak tram in Hong Kong. They traveled there, from our home in Germany. How fun!
Your favorite baby or child-friendly activity there:
Theo was just over a year old and fascinated with cars, trains, boats -- anything that goes. He loved riding the tram, taking the boat to Kowloon, hopping the Metro, and riding in the stroller watching the
red-topped buses on the city streets. He was also a big fan of Chinese noodles with beef.
Your best tip or words of wisdom for traveling with kids:
- Look at the websites for airports where you'll spend layovers and see if they have children's areas or playrooms. The Zurich airport, where we spent a few hours between flights, has an amazing kids' area that includes a kitchen, huge play area, a separate napping/nursing room with cribs, and even video games for older kids, all for free!
- Keep children on their regular schedules as much as possible. Make time for meals and naps, even if it means less sightseeing. We've learned that traveling with our son might mean seeing fewer tourist attractions, but we get a slower and deeper view of wherever we are.
Your favorite way to make it feel like home:
We always try to stop at a park or playground in the afternoon.
An item you MUST take with you when traveling:
Our lightweight travel stroller (a MOON, a German model similar to the Quinny Zapp), and plenty of toy cars.
