Adventures and Outings: Winery Escape with Inigo

During our Escapes month on Ohdeedoh, we are posting great photos and tips for traveling with children from our readers. Please check here for all the details.

Inigo, and his parents Lara and Mark, recently traveled interstate for a wedding. He thoroughly enjoyed his week-long stay in wine country. Do you have a question about a specific wine grape? Ask Inigo!

The city and location the photo was taken in:
The first photo was at All Saints Winery, the second at Pfeiffers Winery overlooking the Murray River, near Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia.

Your favorite baby or child-friendly activity there: All Saints had a pond with ducks (Inigo is fascinated with animals), and Pfeiffers has turtles - unfortunately the turtles were hibernating (it's winter down under).

Your best tip or words of wisdom for traveling with kids: Breastfeeding made traveling a lot easier! I know that some people have trouble, but I am so glad we persevered - dealing with bottles and formula while we were on the go for a week would have made it a lot harder.

Your favorite way to make it feel like home: We took a little portable speaker thingy so that we could play Inigo's sleeping music to help him sleep in his port a cot. It made a big difference, and we all got some sleep (after the first night when I forgot I had it, and he woke 4 times during the night). Between that and having his familiar toys around him, he was happy as a lark.

An item you MUST take with you when traveling: Probably the most useful things we had with us were his home made bibs - they are extra absorbent, and could take a lot of drool and "other things" which is very useful when you are on the go. The kid has always had a hair-trigger gut, travelling didn't make it worse, but having lots of absorbent material around is always useful. And wipe clean shoes ;)
