We're big proponents of supporting local artists and bringing art into the home. We also understand purchasing art can be a little daunting, especially from the perspective of budget. But there are plenty of Los Angeles based artists and art galleries catering to the first time art buyer, with a wide variety of styles that appeal to a myriad of tastes. Below are ten of our favorite affordable Los Angeles artists and galleries that can help bring art into your home without breaking the bank...
Audrey Kawasaki: We've been following Audrey's work for a long time now via her LiveJournal and we still find ourselves fawning over her sensuous Art Nouveau inspired ladies. Her artwork's prices have skyrocketed, but she still offers limited edition prints at affordable rates at predetermined times (such as the print above).
kozyndan: this Santa Monica artist couple (Kozy and Dan) are known for their dynamic wide panoramic prints and their coastal inspired paintings. Posters start at just $5 with archival digital prints at $110.
Nucleus Gallery: this bustling gallery in downtown Alhambra has become a hotbed of young talent in the new art scene. Known for their large group shows, they've got a large collection of original artwork and prints for purchase both in-store and online.
Moira Hahn: we've been longtime fans of Moira's work, watercolors best described as dynamic and colourful anthropomorphic narratives with reference to the past and present. In fact, several of her works grace our walls!
POKETO: if a tight budget is your problem, but you've got a jonesing for some artwork, POKETO's gallery of prints might be your savior. $20-$40, these art prints are affordable to nearly anyone, and make a great gift option.
Souther Salazar: we actually last saw local yokel Souther Salazar's works in NYC when he exhibited his works at Jonathan Levine Gallery. His work evokes the wonders and imagination many of us abandoned in our childhood, created out of found objects and miscellany, and he's just opened an Etsy shop to offer an affordable range of his works.
Black Maria: the Atwater Village gallery specializes in both local and visiting art. We especially love the current exhibit of tree inspired soft sculptural pillows by Tina Rodas.
New Editions: A Los Angeles online art site that specializes in limited edition prints of contemporary art for children and their parents. Prices start at just $90.
Found Gallery: Literally just around the corner from us in Silver Lake, this small gallery features the work of "upcoming artists who have never before exhibited on the West Coast." We especially like the pieces done by Matt Maust, bassist for the Cold War Kids, and limited edition silk screen prints are nicely priced at $175.
