I love the look of the white painted floors common in Scandinavian shelter magazines. The look is sleek and modern, but in practice it takes a commitment (and wood floors) and can be difficult to keep clean. So Jon and Tyke's slightly more approachable — and more affordable — take on the look is a welcome addition to our archives of inspiration.
Jon and Tyke needed to replace the flooring in the whole upstairs of their home and decided on plain wide pine planks from a local lumber liquidator that were affordable and quick to install. They added a layer of white paint and over the course of a year, the white has faded slightly and shows a hint of the wood below with subtle knots and wood grain coming through. It's a warmer take on opaque glossy white floors and a great affordable option for modern looking wood flooring.
