Q: We're looking for an all wood bed frame in the American Empire style but simple rather than ornate, a good example being the Camden Arch bed from Restoration Hardware. Since we can't afford this, does anyone have any recommendations for where to find something similar? It doesn't even have to have the recessed areas as in the Camden, but at the least we're looking for the four short posts as seen in this type of style. Thanks!

This is the kind of thing you should be able to find on Craigslist or in a vintage/antique store pretty easily. It looks like every bed that every one of my friends' parents had in the 1950s and 1960s. Even places like the Salvation Army might have them.
You might have to sand, stain and polyurethane because most of the beds Im remembering were maple, or at least maple colored.
Get thee to Ebay. Search Henredon, Drexel, Heritage, and perhaps Ethan Allen, and anything else that pertains directly to that type of bed.
There are fantastic finds on Ebay. $10,000 beds can be had for little. I would suggest looking everyday, because the good stuff goes fast.
And don't freak out over shipping. There are lots of shippers who will pick up one piece and deliver it half way across the country for less that $200. I have bought several pieces and had them shipped by a third party shipper, and the going rate seems to be $165 - $200. I recently shipped four chairs I bought on Ebay for $176.
I own this bed and love it. We were lucky enough to purchase it from a Restoration Hardware outlet at half the price. I looked for a similar style bed for about five years before we lucked into the one at the outlet with minor dings. This bed does get scratched up pretty easily, especially if you have kids who throw their toys around in your home..."honey, do not bang that airplane against Mommy's bed." However, I am glad that we didn't settle because to this day, this bed "makes" my bedroom and it's solid as a rock. We will probably and hopefully have it for the rest of our lives...small dings and all!
My advice...look up the RH outlets. Good luck!
I think this something you'd be able to find thifting or at a garage sale pretty easily, but it will probably be a full size or queen at most. If you get a good deal, you could have it professionally refinished, as going from maple to dark expresso can be a challenging DIY.
They have almost that exact same bed on Overstock:

I second the Urban Home Bed. I don't know if they ship, but I do know you can order stuff and pick it up at the closest store.
