The very first pic with the guy is in (that owns the small rug..) looks too sterile for my liking - the room that is. The room has an industrial feel to it that I'm not so find of. However it's well done for those that like this type of look.

I feel cheated only getting to see two pictures of the house...what's the point?? But Mr. Dangerous...how do you know it was a *beautiful* 1912 bungalow before he started? It could have been uglified in the 70s and 80s, or maybe it has been ugly since 1912...we didn't get to see the before :) and I am usually a huge preservationist but I need to see the before to know if I want to slap the man or congratulate him. I'm not too moved by this one though....it feels very....precious...like I would get yelled at for breathing in this house.

well, that is my house and the guy is our architect--do not blame him for my too small rug, it fit the old place and we are now too broke for a new bigger angela adams:) the old bungalow, where we lived for 7 yrs before the remodel, was not beautiful--it was cramped, no charming touches and as it turns out, had rotten framing in most of the rooms and no framing in some. the new house rocks and i got hooked on apt therapy while looking for design ideas.....the magazine photog put our "soft touches" away for the pics but we do have a new clutter-free aesthetic to match the house and our curious 19 month old.

Must be lovely moving into a new home after being in a cramped one. I know I am looking forward to doing so in the future myself. By the way, if you happen to want a larger rug, and can't afford to get one, why don't you make one? That way you can make it exactly how you want it and it would be way cheaper too. A bit of work but would be well worth it and something you'd treasure.

groverhog, I'd love to get more info about that steel-framed screen/window/wall in the first pic, where your cute architect is standing. I've been wanting to incorporate a similar solution at our staircase and love the way this looks.

Also love the Heywood-Wakefield pieces (meso, that's a H-W coffee table and I want it too!), as well as pretty much everything in both the photos. Yes, the rug is small and that's a pet peeve of mine, BUT it is gorgeous and fits right in w/the overall scheme.
