- Inspiration for my palette:
- My apartment is a pretty cookie-cutter older building without a lot of structural character. I figured it was the perfect opportunity to use a bold wall color to add some style to the room!
- Colors used in my room
- Aubergine ("Choctaw" by Ace Royal Interiors), Soft Yellow, Garnet, Black
- Tips for using color successfully
- Test it first in all times of day in the room, and then don't be afraid to go with your gut! Accessories can be changed, and paint can be painted over.

Room for Color
I adore this commitment to big, yet subtle, color. My very fave room.
I like this room. What couch is that?
This apartment really reminds me of one lived in by a fellow student in grad school. A warehouse had been converted to studio apartments and most didn't have a natural light source, so were very dark (although not in Aimee's colorful way). Thinking back, I don't know how that place got around fire regulations, but then again, I don't know what those were in early-90s Columbia, SC.
A very calm and warm room. Congratulations on a fabulous creation. But I don't care that it's called Aubergine, I'd be tempted to eat dark chocolate in that room, not eggplant!
Kudos to you for having the guts to make such a bold statement.
I agree - bold, brave, and beautiful!
relaxing and sophisticated, like the mood in a nice bar, or in some kind of old style den. I like that a lady made it this way, as it reminds me of the men's after dinner drinking room (while the ladies went and talked embroidery or something)
nothing cookie-cutter about this apartment!
Thank you! The sofa is the Corona from Macy's. I found it originally here on Apartment Therapy!
