Do you have an alcove in your home? Although they're often oddly shaped, alcoves offer lots of possibilities for built-in storage. British designers Couture Furniture have included a few alcove projects in their portfolio, and we think they offer some good approaches to making the most of a recessed nook...
Most of these projects combine open vertical shelving with closed cabinets at base level. This weights the alcove on the bottom and preserves a more lightweight look higher up. Comparing the projects, you can also see the different looks you get when you choose a built-in that's flush with the alcove, one that protrudes a little, or a freestanding piece of furniture that's not hooked into the wall.

Mmm, alcoves and storage space. These spaces are great because they are already there and are just BEGGING for books and vases and sculptures. Yum!
