Modern tabletop company Alessi has maintained the same flagship location for almost 25 years in Italy's design capital, Milan. After all that time, they've finally moved — from 9 Corso Matteotti to 14-16 Via Manzoni. Tomorrow, the doors open to their new store, a sleek and colorful space designed by the (self-described) Catalan "artist/performer/ex-designer" Martí Guixé.

CEO Alberto Alessi says he tasked Guixé with the creation of a space that would be "refined as befits our role as a manufacturer of Italian design, but also relaxed and certainly not dull and self-important."

The result is a patchwork of reds, purples, blacks, and whites used in geometric floor patterns and staggered display shelves. Guixé, who designed Alessi's Paris location three years ago, describes the new store as "a set, a museum, a shop and a cabinet."
Alessi's new flagship store opens on June 9, 2011, and is located at Via Manzoni 14–16, 20121 Milano, Tel. 02-795726. Contact the store for hours and more information.

I love the staggered display shelves, but to me, and maybe this is just me, but the colouring seems a little off. The pinks and purples remind me of a kind of neopop, tacky vibe and not suited to the very sleek, "fresh" reputation of Alessi!
I LIVE for the floors!
