Growing up, a classmate's mother (Mrs. Kull) made a fancy gingerbread house each year to be raffled off at the school holiday fair. We were quite taken with them and, though we never won one, always insisted our parents buy (many!) raffle tickets. And each year when the holidays roll around we think this is the year we're going to make our first gingerbread house! And each year the baking and construction seems too daunting and we chicken out. Sister Diane of CraftyPod had a gingerbread-themed podcast last week with special guest, her mom, that might give us the confidence to finally try.
Diane's family made a gingerbread house nearly every year and she asks her mom great, basic questions about baking and building one. It's a charming, lively conversation between mother and daughter and chock full of great tips and tricks for having success with your gingerbread house. We highly recommend a listen.
Diane also provides some fantastic gingerbread house links including one to a gallery of elaborate houses (including those pictured above).
Thanks, CraftyPod, for sharing your family tradition and perhaps inspiring others to take up the gingerbread gauntlet!
