It's hard to pinpoint exactly when gold fell so out of favor in jewelry and interiors, but it's now a bit of a surprise when this metallic hue is spotted indoors. All the more reason to incorporate it into your space; gold's a unique color that will instantly add some drama, shine and boldness to any space. It also happens to blend splendidly with Mid-Century Modern decor (as well as often factor into a lot of the color schemes of MCM items). The good news is that if you are on the hunt for a few gold-toned items to add to your home, you can totally choose from a variety of new and vintage accessories (and to be sure, we're talking about the color of gold here, not the actual metal):

Shaw's Original Fir...
It's difficult to find a gold finish that looks rich. Polished brass hard surfaces look dated and tacky. Gold metallic textiles look cheap. Shot fabric is scratchy and looks like something intended for tourists. I think copper and antique brass look better than gold among the warm metals, although still not great. My favorite warm metal may be bronze.
I'm not a huge fan of gold, to be honest, but in designing my mom's bedroom, we found some great fabric that has a gold color to it, though not metallic. Since it's silk satin, it still has sheen to it and is very beautiful.
For these images, I'm only really into the dishes.
I very much like golds and golden yellows in fabric and paint, just not in metallic finishes.
My 1938 house has the prettiest real brass sconces in the living room. I've kept them, knowing that they would eventually come back in style. They just looked "right". When I remodeled my kitchen and dining area. I added a schoolhouse lamp in brushed brass from Rejuvenation. Others questioned my choice, but I've never regretted it and now, it's actually cool again!
